Advanced Settings

WARNING! The settings on this page are of a more advanced nature and may require more technical knowledge than the rest of the administration system. These settings allow more precise control of details of your website. Some of these settings are for specific layouts or conflict with other settings. Also, some settings may "break" your website in ways such that the layout might not be pleasing.

Don't be afraid to experiment. In most cases, changing the entry to blank will restore your website to the default.

Page (Width, Header, Footer and Background)

General parameters that affect every page.

If not blank, this is used to set the maximum width of the content part of all web pages on your website. Leaving this field will use a default that generally works pretty well for a given layout but the nature of your content might benefit from an adjustment. Widths should either be as absolute pixels or a percentage. Some good examples are:
  • 980px - displays well on most monitors,
  • 760px - displays well on all but the lowest resolution monitors,
  • 560px - not recommended but will display well on really low resolution monitors,
  • 90% - will dynamically adjust based on how wide the browser windows is.
This is problematic on high resolution monitors so use it with care. The matted layouts are cannot not be controlled by this value.
Select an image to replace the title text on the page header. This image will not be resized and may look cropped below. In general, this image should be no larger than about 500 pixels wide by 100 pixels high. The best results will depend somewhat on the layout chosen. It is a good idea to choose a background color that matches your color scheme's background. If this sounds too complicated then just choose (none) and the "Website Title" above will be used.
Select an image to use as a background image. Use this with care. It's a good idea to use a fairly subitle or washed out image otherwise it will be too busy for foreground text and images. The image will be repeated both horizontally and vertically so if you are using a pattern, you don't need a very big one.
Override the copyright message at the bottom of the website. The default message will work for most people. The default copyright message also automatically puts in the current year.
Typeface

The typeface is style text characters. A typeface is sometimes called a font but a font is a typeface at a specific size.

This is the typeface that is used as a default throughout the website. Select (default) to use the default typeface specified in the selected layout.
If not blank, this is used to set the typeface size that all fonts on your website are based on. It can be expressed using units like 120%, 14px, 12pt, 1.2em, etc. Using the 'px' unit is not a good idea as it prevents your visitors from resizing the text.
Galleries

Additional gallery settings.

On the main gallery page, this message will be placed below the title. Does not display on the vertical layout.
Mailing List

Additional mailing list settings.

On the mailing list page, this message will be placed below the title. It will replace the default message. Leave this field blank to restore the default message.
Links

Additional Links page settings.

This message will be placed below the title on the links page.
Images

The properties of the Featured Image web page.

Sets the maximum size that a feature image can have. The feature image is largest image. This size must be a number (no units) as '500' for 500 pixels. Leave blank to use defaults. Using a size larger than about 500 pixels risks being a problem for visitors that have low screen resolutions. The matted layouts limit this size to a maximum of 550 pixels.
Some layouts have a contrasting border around the feature image. This sets the width of that border, i.e., '10px' will create a 10 pixel border around the image. Set to 0 for no border and blank the default for the layout.
Some layouts have a contrasting border around the thumbnail image. This sets the width of that border, i.e., '1px' will create a 1 pixel border (suggested) around the image. Set to 0 for no border and blank the default for the layout.
Change the text of the 'Inquire about this work' link. Set this field to 'none' to suppress this link. Set to blank to use the default.
Check to suppress the display of the "next" and "previous" links and icons.
Check to enable the display of the "next" and "previous" links and icons at the bottom of the page.
Check to suppress the display of the icons assocaited with the "next" and "previous".
Check to suppress the display of the text assocaited with the "next" and "previous" links but leaving the arrows. The arrows are enhanced.
Meta Tags

Meta description and keywords provide information about the nature of a website to tools that search the internet. In the past, search engines used this information to help them match search queries to websites but misuse of these tags has caused most search engines to now ignore them. There may be some internet tools that still make use of these tags so it doesn't hurt to fill them out.
